Thank you so much! I was trying to get Flex Builder to run with PDT and all I could find were all-in-one downloads, so this did just the trick. Plus it allowed me to start anew with my Eclipse install... as messy as my last one got it was a nice refresher. Again, thank you for all your digging.

There is a simpler way to add flexbuilder to existing eclipse, it takes 5 minutes
from within Eclipse click help -> software updates -> Manage Configuration

3. Click Add an Extension Location and select (flex_builder_install_location/eclipse.

restart eclipse

Luigi, if I recall correctly Flex Builder isn't compatible with Eclipse 3.5, some have got it to run, I've not had much success - I get a lot of errors similar to yours.

Hi,
I'm trying to setup my new Eclipse Galileo (3.5) using the Sean's method but I got this error:
Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.
To: com.adobe.flexbuilder.debug.e32 [3.0.214193]
From: Adobe Flex Builder Core Feature 3.0.214193 (com.adobe.flexbuilder.feature.core.feature.group 3.0.214193)
Missing requirement: Flex Debug Plug-in for Eclipse 3.2 3.0.214193 (com.adobe.flexbuilder.debug.e32 3.0.214193) requires 'bundle org.eclipse.debug.ui [3.2.0,3.3.0)' but it could not be found

What's wrong?
It seems that the new package
org.eclipse.debug.ui_3.5.0.v20090603
isn't backward compatible with the oldest 3.2.0, 3.3.0
Thanks in advance

@Tom, please see Sean's comment above. It appears there is a really simple solution to reconnecting the plugin as Sean indicates, so this should work on version 3.3 as well as 3.4 and beyond.

@Sean, haha I'd never tried that until you mentioned it :p. Works a treat, I assumed it was to do with updating the plugin itself and not the eclipse installation it was associated with.

Thanks for that - I'll add an update to the post :D

I'm curious as to why you uninstall FB from your old Eclipse before installing it in the new one?

Once you have an install of FB, you can add it as a local update site to any new Eclipse install.

In Software Updates, add a local site pointing to:

/Applications/Adobe Flex Builder 3 Plug-in/com.adobe.flexbuilder.update.site

Then just install the plugin using Eclipse's software update process. This is pretty quick.

For Eclipse updates, it's pretty quick to disable the plugin via the Software Updates > Installed Software dialog and then reinstall it as a local site after the update finishes. That's certainly easier than messing around copying files manually.
