Like good old London red buses, you’re waiting for ages for one to come along, then two come at once. However I’m not talking about buses here. No, I’m excited about something completely different – I’m referring to Flash Player 10.1 and AIR 2.0. Both of which are now available for download! I’ve already done a quick post about Flash Player 10.1 so it only follows to do the same for AIR 2.0 (so here it is).

There are some superb enhancements and additions to AIR 2.0 and you can read about them in depth over at the AIR teams blog post, but before you do here are some of the highlights (you can read the full list here):

Enhanced support for interacting with printers

Support for TLS/SSL socket communication

Support for the detection of mass storage devices.

Advanced networking capabilities like secure sockets, UDP support, and the ability to listen on sockets.

Support for native code integration.

The ability to open a file with its default application.

Multi-touch and gesture support.

New APIs for access to raw microphone data.

WebKit update with HTML5/CSS3 support.

Global error handling.

Improved cross-platform printing.

Improved security and support for enterprise and government standards.

You can install AIR 2.0 now by heading to the AIR download page.

I’m going to keep this short and sweet as the title pretty much sums it all up. Today I start a new chapter in my career as a Flash Platform Evangelist at Adobe. I’m super stoked about this and I’m both excited and honoured to be working with such a high calibre of individuals both on a professional and personal level.

I’ll be doing a follow up post about my first week as an Evangelist (well in a week obviously :p), but I wanted to celebrate this great opportunity by letting all my friends and peers know. I’d have done this announcement sooner but I’ve been sworn to secrecy for a rather long time – feels good to be able to shout it from the rafters at last :D

Go Team! :D

What seems like a lifetime since the first public beta of Flash Builder 4 has ended with the release of Beta 2 this morning. There are a heap of new things that have been added / moved / refactored since the last beta. One of the big things for me is the fact that there are far more Spark components included now. However we have generation of getter / setters, DCD and Unit testing. As well as enhancing the debugging / profiling

For a overview of wwhat’s in the latest beta check out Tim Buntell’s article on Adobe.com.

There is also an introduction to Flash Builder 4 video – you can view that here

Another year another fantastic conference in Brighton – I’m obviously speaking about Flash on the Beach. What a fantastic conference, not only was it bigger and better but John announced that there would be a Flash on the Beach Miami in 2009. I’m pretty stoked by this as John had sworn me to secrecy over this new conference date. Plus he’d asked me if I’d like to present there…Hell yeah!

That said this year at Flash on the Beach I did a session entitled “Things To Make And Do”. It was a talk about the Flex framework from the perspective of component development and how an understanding of how the component framework in Flex works will provide you with a good grasp of how the overall Flex framework flows.

So without further ado, here are the links to download my session notes and the example code used in the presentation. I’ve added some detail to the slide notes, (you’ll need to download the version with the notes – not the one below). That said I may record the session again via Screenflow so it is useful for everyone. I’ve also shared it via Adobe Share and embedded the slide deck below

So today is the London leg of the onAir tour. I thought this would be a great opportunity to test out qik too. So over the course of the day I will be streaming directly from the event (battery life on my N95 permitting).

For those who want to have a look you can find my qik page here (http://qik.com/flashgen). I did manage to stream all of Andrew Shorten’s keynote (that tanked my battery) – not sure how the sound came out as I’m running mute here as we are currently in session. Anyway as I upload more videos they will appear in my Qik profile.
